Casu Marzu Cheese

Casu marzu cheese is native to Sardinia, Italy, and hasn’t been able to be served many other places. Casu marzu cheese, which roughly means “rotten/putrid cheese,” gets its name from the fact that it contains live maggots. Because consuming  maggots can lead to health problems, the European Union banned the cheese.
