Devil’s Nose, Ecuador

The Devil’s Nose is a stretch of the Trans-Andean railroad that is named for the La Nariz del Diablo, a mountain with such steep, perpendicular walls that they resemble a nose. According to legend, Satan didn’t want a railway to be built there, so the project was damned. You could chalk that up to a bit of paranoia, if it weren’t for a few hair-raising facts.
During just a four-year period of construction on the railway, which climbs more than 1,600 feet high, more than 4,000 workers died. On top of that, it’s reportedly haunted. People have fainted after seeing strange passengers appear in carriages out of nowhere as the train approaches the Devil’s Nose. Hmmm, no thanks.
