Paul Karason – Real-Life Papa Smurf

“Not much further, my little smurfs,” said Papa Smurf. Paul Karason ingested colloidal silver to treat a skin condition, but the silver in the over-the-counter medicine reacted with sunlight and caused argyria, a condition that turns skin dark blue. His unexpected fame and notoriety prompted the FDA to ban silver in OTC drugs. Unfortunately, in 2013, Karason passed away from a sudden heart attack (unrelated to his argyria).
