20 Fascinating Facts About the Creamy World of Dairy Queen

Orange Julius

In 1987, DQ purchased the Orange Julius chain. (Both companies were, in turn, acquired by the Berkshire Hathaway corporation in 1999.)

Dairy Queen’s corporate site explains the history of Orange Julius as such: “The name actually is derived from the name of the man who started the stores, Julius Freed. In 1926 Freed opened a fresh orange juice stand in California. Shortly thereafter, he had heard “Give me an orange, Julius” so often that he knew he had created a highly successful product and a great name for his new franchising operation: Orange Julius.”

Dairy Queen added Orange Julius products to its regular menus in 2012.
