Sonny Bono

Sonny Bono, half of one of the most famous musical duos in history, had a career trajectory that no one could have predicted. He has gone from singing such successful hits as “The Beat Goes On,” to the popular variety show The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour. When Bono’s singing career slowed down, he branched out to roles in TV shows, such as The Golden Girls.
His next venture, a restaurant, failed due to all the red tape that the city of Palm Springs, California, imposed on him. Bono took matters into his own hands and got elected, serving as mayor from 1988 to 1992. In office, he reformed the permit approval process. Later, he was elected to California’s House of Representatives.
