Cynthia Nixon

Cynthia Nixon, undoubtedly better known as Miranda Hobbs from HBO’s Sex and the City, which managed to leave a giant impression on women and would-be New Yorkers everywhere despite only running for a handful of seasons, ran for governor of New York in 2018.
Nixon waged a valiant campaign against Democratic incumbent Andrew Cuomo, but in the end, she lost the primary, only securing roughly half a million votes. One of her campaign advisors attributed the loss to people’s general distrust of celebrities running for office thanks to President Donald Trump, and the opposition’s ability to paint her as “only being an actress and only being a celebrity.”
