Moving On

Lisa Baker was a little intimidated about buying her first new house after the death of her husband, who was an experienced construction worker. The Gaines family was there to make sure that her cozy 1950s fixer-upper project went as seamlessly as possible for her. They took a tiny kitchen and small dining room and swapped them, tearing out the walls and making more room for both. Baker’s new kitchen is light and open, with such rustic elements as homemade bowls and light, patterned tiles.
