Before toilet paper was invented, groups all over the world used different methods to clean their behinds. Native Americans would use seashells, small rocks, dried grass, or even twigs. In ancient Japan, they used “chugi,” or small flat sticks. The ancient Greeks used shards of clay from their pottery.
