Elvis Presley – ‘Speedway’ Soundtrack

There was a period in the 1960s – prior to his legendary comeback special – when Elvis Presley’s career was in a downward spiral. The King had abandoned “serious” musical pursuits for low-budget films and soundtrack albums, which were delivering diminishing returns by the time Speedway was released in 1968. The film, where Elvis plays a NASCAR driver who falls in love with the IRS agent sent to keep tabs on him (yes, really), was a massive flop. The film’s soundtrack sold terribly at the time, but original pressings have since become valued collector’s items amongst Elvis fans. In particular, the rare mono recording can fetch thousands in mint condition.
