McDonnell Douglas DC-10

The DC-10 has had a complex and tragic history in its short 20-year run. Originally built to be a commercial plane, the DC-10 was introduced in 1968, but models soon malfunctioned. In 1972, American Airlines Flight 96 crashed in Ontario, but luckily all 67 passengers survived. However, in 1979, American Airlines Flight 191 crashed in Chicago, killing all 271 people on board and two people on the ground. And these were just two of the incidents.
The central problem with DC-10s was the cargo doors, which were built differently, causing them to blow out under the immense pressure of flight. Today, there are still a couple of modified DC-10s flying as cargo planes.
