Winter Came in 1985

While Dairy Queen has existed since 1940, the company didn’t introduce its most successful product until 1985. That year, DQ introduced the Blizzard, a mix of soft serve mechanically blended with mix-in ingredients including traditional sundae toppings, cookies, brownies, or licensed candies. The Blizzard name came from the mixture’s thickness. When frozen, an upside-down Blizzard will not spill.
The company sold over 100 million Blizzards that first year, and the item has been on the menu ever since.
