The first Dairy Queen was such a success that the company’s expansion began almost immediately, quickly growing to 10 stores by 1941. As DQ revolutionized the franchise concept, that number grew to 100 by 1947, 1,446 by 1950, and 2,600 in 1955, just 15 years after the first Dairy Queen opened.
As of 2014, the last year data was available, there were 6,400 Dairy Queen stores in 27 countries, including more than 1,400 locations outside the United States and Canada.
